The search is on for the latest inductees into the Wambo Coal Singleton Hall of Fame, with this year’s nominations open from today.
Nominations are encouraged for people from Singleton, or who have a strong association with Singleton, who have excelled in the categories of:• arts, science and education – including culture and entertainment;• business and Industry – including agriculture, trade, retail and mining;• public service, including politics, unionism, religion, education, welfare, defence, bravery and gallantry;• wine, tourism and hospitality;• sport;• community service; and • meritorious familiesto join the illustrious list of inductees honoured with a paver on the Hall of Fame outside Council’s Administration Building.
Peabody Energy Australia, owner of the Wambo open cut mine in Singleton, has partnered with Singleton Council to recognise individuals, families or local organisations who have achieved significant prominence at a state, national or international level in their field of endeavour since the Hall of Fame’s inception.
Nominations close on 7 September 2018, with this year’s inductees to be announced at a gala event on 14 November 2018.
Chairperson of the Wambo Coal Singleton Hall of Fame Committee and Deputy Mayor, Cr Godfrey Adamthwaite, said he was expecting a high calibre of nominations in keeping with previous years.
“The Wambo Coal Hall of Fame is an amazing way not only to recognise those people who have been fantastic ambassadors for Singleton through their dedication to their careers and the community, but to ensure their achievements and contributions live on for generations to come,” he said.
“I encourage anyone who knows someone who has excelled to the highest level in their field of expertise or who has provided outstanding service to our community to put them forward.
“I also pay tribute to Peabody Energy Australia for their ongoing partnership and support for the Hall of Fame, and shining the spotlight on the outstanding people in our community.”
